Temporary Listening Spaces
Ongoing artistic research, 2026–2027
Developed within the CAS Arts and International Cooperation programme
at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
Temporary Listening Spaces explores listening environments that people can enter, inhabit and leave freely. Through sound, silence and minimal spoken guidance, the work directs attention between the body, the surrounding space and listening itself.
The project asks whether such a space could offer a temporary sense of rest, ease or orientation when attention is shaped by stress, uncertainty, disruption or absence.
A point of departure for the research was a series of listening sessions held in Yerevan, attended by people displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh alongside other participants. The sessions were not specifically adapted interventions, but raised questions about how listening spaces might be developed responsibly in contexts shaped by displacement.
The work is an artistic and ethical inquiry. It does not present itself as therapy or assume that sound and silence are inherently calming.
Currently in research and prototype development.
